Yassin Salim is a filmmaker born in Alkmaar, The Netherlands. Their work is mainly autobiographical and used as a way for them to make sense of the noise that is their ADD addled mind. Through surreal imagery and dreamlike narrative they philosophize away shamelessly on topics like trauma, gender and theology, grasping at every straw they can reach. Judgemental and critical to a fault. Sometimes embodying the devil’s advocate to an obnoxious degree. This is however paired with an uncanny earnestness and an intention to make filmmaking as accessible as possible.
I grew up as an anxious kid that mainly sat in their room, behind their computer. I always felt like life was passing me by but I was completely incapable of doing anything about it. The pessimistic fable of ISAC showcases the fears, insecurities and coping mechanisms that were present during these years of self isolation.
I combined different types of uncanny animation styles, one organic but twisted and the other synthetic and unsettling. This to highlight the contrast between the titular character and their foil.
