Director Statement

Irreverence is the most intense script I have written to date. A story with crushing themes that takes inspiration from David Lynch's "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me" and Ingmar Bergman's "Persona", I wrote this story with the intent of challenging the audience's morality.

Borrowing from my own poem "Snowman", I came to Irreverence. Snowman is a tale about an abusive couple who continue to argue as ghosts after their death in the hands of each other in a cold desolate tundra. Contrastingly, Irreverence is set in a green forest and modern cabin...although it is equally as cold as Snowman in its tone and themes. Irreverence compares physical wounds to emotional wounds and how they can both easily cause similar amounts of pain... but it's also about how someone can pick apart them wounds after they have healed.

Irreverence, as a production, has taught me many things about filmmaking and even though the film is quite dark in its themes, comparatively, the production was a very fun process and we had a great time piecing together the film scene by scene.
