IRONMAN

VOJO, a retired police officer lives in Skopje, the capital city of North Macedonia, one of the most polluted cities in the world. He finds meaning in his passion and love for innovation, which he directs towards clean energy and ecology. Over the past 15 years, he has successfully implemented eight patented projects, but his passion is reserved for building a perpetual motion machine that will generate clean electricity for all, without the need for an energy source. He invests all his pension in building a giant iron machine, ignoring the necessities of life and neglecting the needs of his family. He resolutely refuses to allow the basic laws of physics to stand in the way of
his dream, even when faced with setbacks and rejection from the scientific community. Will our Don Quixote-like hero succeed in fulfilling his mission – reducing pollution to save Earth from global warming and destruction by man - or will he redeem himself for the damage his obsession has caused to
his family?

Global warming is on the increase worldwide. Most people think disaster is inevitable, but there are those who believe it is still possible to change
the course of the future. Some of these people act locally, confronting their immediate surroundings. Such people can inspire an awakening of global consciousness and act on one of the greatest problems for mankind today: pollution. Skopje, the city we live in, is one of the most polluted cities in the world. Over the past few years, death and suffering as a result of air pollution has increased. As young directors we are struck by this issue, because there are members of our immediate families whose health is endangered. Our subject Vojo’s Don Quixote-like struggle and the problems he faces remind us what it means to love our planet and to be human, and that, on a global scale, we all need to start necessary change from within ourselves. Vojo charms us with his childlike behavior and actions, but his serious perceptions, his vision of a better world, and his never-ending search for answers will be a source of inspiration and make audiences think – and, hopefully, act.
Due to the dynamics of the story, the style in which we will make the
film is an observational creative documentary. We have spent a lot of time at Vojo's yard and room observing what he is doing and waiting for interesting situations and moments to happen. We have unlimited access to him and the shooting locations. But also we are following him in his everyday routines whenever he goes outside of his home. Shooting with small cameras is very crucial in this project to not attract the attention of people and, with time,
in a way become invisible to them. This approach allows us to get very close to our protagonist, which will result in an intimate atmosphere in the frame. Vojo has a very strong personality and it is hard for him to show emotions
in front of the camera, so we need to do our utmost to make him forget
about the camera's presence to get natural reactions from him. We are trying to shoot with a steady handheld camera as much as possible due to the dynamics of the character and also to try to get closer to his inner state and to portrait him more naturally.
We will use air pollution scenes and atmosphere as a metaphor for his inner struggle and his loneliness. At the end of the film Vojo will make an air purification filter that will actually work. This in turn will be used as a metaphor of him contributing to solving the problem that he is facing on an everyday basis and that has bothered him for years - the air pollution.
The sound design and even music of the film will use sounds of Vojo's machine as motives. Also with the sound design we’ll try to portray his inner sound that he has in his head while he is alone, that should sound like the movement of the machine. We will try to experiment and make music out of the sounds of his machines and working tools. Music in the film will emerge in the moments of hope returning to the protagonist, it will be buoyant and will add to the viewer’s empathy.
The audience will see that in the end of the film our hero, instead of saving the world, will save his soul. We hope that his fight will inspire people all around the world to act and that the change of the world should start from themselves.
