Director Biography - Kagure N. Kabue

Kagure Kabue, a filmmaker carving out new paths from Kenya to the U.S., found her creative spark in the avant-garde music videos of the 1980s, channeling this inspiration into socially driven, cinematic storytelling.

She studied directing at the prestigious School of Cinema at San Francisco State University. There, she developed a unique artistic voice focused on social good. Her work earned her a Humanitas Award nomination in screenwriting, and she later workshopped her first feature screenplay at the Screenwriting Program at the Community of Writers at Squaw Valley. Alongside her corporate video production work, she has written over 40 short films, directed the award-winning short film, The Simple Things, and received accolades for her short scripts Who We Are and Iron Fist, as well as being a story editor for the SF Bay Area documentary WE WERE HYPHY.

She is currently writing her next project, MURDER IN THE PARISH, a 1hr dramatic mystery series set in 1963 Kenya, whose development structure is intended to serve as a repeatable model for the modern marginalized filmmaker.

Director Statement

We, as filmmakers, aim to provide a fresh perspective, reflecting the complexities of our lives.

My work invites audiences to immerse themselves in worlds where underrepresented voices rise above the noise and challenge the status quo.

These are not just films; they are a statement. They’re a call to action, a demand for diverse stories that reflect our rich tapestry of experiences. We're here to tell our own stories, to challenge perceptions, and to inspire change.

As a filmmaker, I am passionate about supporting diverse voices and narratives.
