Invitation
"Invitation" is a tense, atmospheric 30-second short film that explores the unknown — driven by curiosity and its consequences. In the darkness of an empty room, a solitary cardboard box looms ominously, faintly glowing and emitting strange sounds from within. The film builds suspense as a cautious homeowner (and the audience) questions what lies beneath the surface.

Jammes Luckett is a composer, songwriter, and music video director with over 20 years of experience in film and television. Known for her original scores and songs for projects like the cult classic MAY (Lionsgate), she has collaborated extensively with writer/director Lucky McKee. Her work also spans a wide range of roles, including sound design, music supervision, and music editing.
Jammes studied cinema and animation at Denison University and the University of Southern California, where she also participated in the USC/Hanna-Barbera Animation Workshop. She has also directed music videos for her own projects, such as Poperratic and DEUXO, as well as radio and TV spots for independent ad agencies. Her animated music video for "Android in Love" was showcased at the 2012 Protoclip Film Festival in Paris.
"Invitation" marks Jammes' narrative directorial debut, where she merges her background in music, sound, and voiceover with a storytelling approach that emphasizes atmosphere and suspense.
"Invitation" is a suspenseful experiment about the allure, fear, and sometimes peril of the unknown. The concept began with a simple haunting image — a glowing cardboard box — and evolved into a story driven by tension and the human instinct to uncover what’s hidden. It explores the power of suggestion and the impact of a single, fleeting moment.
My background in music composition, voiceover, and sound design has always drawn me to audio’s ability to shape even the simplest visual narrative and transport the audience into another time and place. Partially inspired by the early pioneers of cinema who used practical effects and sound to create illusion, I wanted to create an experience where the audience’s imagination plays as much of a role as the visual elements on screen.
This project allowed me to combine my passions for audio and storytelling to create a suspenseful experience through minimal resources, subtle camera movements and the interplay between light and shadow. With Invitation, I used a single, continuous shot to draw the viewer into a world of anticipation and uncertainty.
My hope is to leave the audience with a sense of unease, where the unknown is felt as an emotional response shaped by both the film's atmosphere and its sound design. This lingering sense of dread serves as a reminder that sometimes, what terrifies us most is purely a creation of our imagination.
