Director Statement

"Into Focus is a milestone for me. It is my directorial and writing debut, outside of industrial work or college classes. With subtle inspiration taken from the writings of H.P. Lovecraft, and films like The Thing, Annihilation, and Rosemary's Baby, a group of friends and myself built a team of novice filmmakers to participate in Mid Ohio Filmmakers Association's Three Weeks of Terror contest. Our requirements were to make a found footage film that was 5 - 8 minutes in length. After a number of restless nights, and possibly too much alcohol, we produced Into Focus. The film is about a troubled father reflecting on the whereabouts of his daughter. We combined visual storytelling with non-simultaneous dialogue, testing our knowledge of film language. We also used our resources and small budget to source locations, talent, gear, etc. to maximum effect. Into Focus surpassed our expectations and won best cinematography and best supporting actress in the contest. Not only do I want to share our film at festivals, but taking the time to network and see others' pictures would be an enlightening experience. Film is a collaborative and involved medium, and we need to unite and support one another. I also would like to highlight Unchained Films, Kinopicz American, and the First English Lutheran Church for being indispensable components for our production."
