"In the wake of Shackleton"

Sir Ernest Shackleton was a famous sailor and adventurer, one of the most important in polar history at the beginning of the 20th century. He was characterized by his enormous leadership capacity in the face of adverse situations. In 1914 he was trapped in the ice of Antarctica, along with his twenty-seven crew members, and there he had to survive the southern winter. For three years he lived one of the greatest epics of polar exploration. His personality has been studied by specialists dedicated to building work teams and personal growth, for being one of the best references in the history of classic adventure, as he never lost a member of his crew.

I am a mountaineer, mountain guide and geographer, and last season I had the opportunity to take part of its route in the southern seas, sailing from the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) to South Georgia Islands (Antarctica) for a week, to travel the seven hundred nautical miles (1,400 km) that distance between the two. Once there, we crossed San Pedro Island, following exactly the same route that Shackleton took in his historic feat to save his crew. Finally, we took advantage of the visit to tour the main southern life refuges of this territory known as the Southern Serengeti.

As a result of this expedition I have made my fifth mountain documentary titled “In Shackleton's Wake”. In this audiovisual work, I show the best images of the expedition, both of the sailing, the crossing on foot, and the wildlife of South Georgia. Also, at the beginning I make an introduction to the history of polar exploration and the character of Sir Ernest Shackleton. With a duration of 39 minutes and recorded in 4K, I have developed a script that deals with the values learned during my expeditions to extreme places, such as: the importance of teamwork, leadership, commitment, perseverance, resilience and a long etc. Finally, I dedicate the last minutes to an environmental and protectionist speech and the importance of preserving these inhospitable and wild territories intact.

Director Biography - Juan Diego Amador Rivero

Juan Diego Amador is a native of Tenerife, Canary Islands. There he lives and combines his profession as a Geography teacher and guide, and from the Islands he organizes his commercial or sports expeditions throughout the Planet.
Since he was a teenager, he started mountain sports and by the time he was twenty he had already climbed some important peaks in the Pyrenees and the Alps.
But what is really notable is his pioneering nature: he was the first Canary Islander to ascend a mountain higher than eight thousand meters (Cho-Oyu of 8,201 m., in Tibet), he was the first Canary Islander and the only one to date in the Everest (8,848m in Nepal), and is the only Canary Island with three eight-thousanders. After his adventures in the Himalayas, they decided to ascend to the highest peak on each continent and he is the third Spaniard to complete the ascent to the Seven Summits.
In his long career he has made more than forty important ascents throughout the planet, perhaps one of the most relevant is the ascent to a virgin peak of 6,025 meters in India, which he ended up calling “Pico Islas Canarias”, or the ascent of “Mount Cook” in New Zealand.
As a geographer, teacher and adventurer, he is passionate about disseminating his activities, which is why he has been a contributor to the technical notebooks of Barrabes, the magazines Oxígeno and Desnivel and has five of his own documentaries.
In 2018 he was nominated for the Golden Piolet, the most renowned award in international mountaineering.
