In The Mood For Korean Cinema

“When was the true beginning of K-movies?” Starting with this question, we arrive at 2003, the Year of the Sheep. In South Korea, 2003 was when well-made films came pouring out, calling it the Renaissance of Korean films. With new talents such as Bong Joon Ho and Park Chan-wook emerging, the share of audience in Korean films went over 50%. Despite the political chaos all over the world, Korean films were evolving in both commercial and independent arenas. Amidst the recent K-contents craze around the world, we stop to take a look back at the most beautiful moment in Korean film history as if thumbing through an old diary.
This documentary was produced by Kim Hong-joon, the long-time Bifan festival director and currently the director of Korean Film Archive, as a part of Modern Korea documentary series from KBS.
