Ashley Good is one of Victoria, British Columbia's (Canada) rising independent filmmakers. After shooting her proof-of-concept pilot, HAPPY MEDIUM, in 2016, Ashley decided to keep the momentum building. In 2017 alone, she produced and directed the Stephen King "Dollar Baby," IN THE DEATHROOM, as well as her first feature film, PITY PARTY.
Inspired by the quote, "Life doesn't imitate film, it imitates bad television," Ashley's filmmaking style combines point of view shots with sitcom-inspired scenes. As a writer, Ashley focuses on the odd and awkward moments that happen in between everyday banality.
Ashley is excited to see her work premiere at film fests across the US and Canada, and is looking forward to not only her next feature, but also to helping grow Victoria's film community.
"As someone who grew up consuming as many of Stephen King's stories as she possibly could, it was a massive privilege to shoot a film based off of one of his works.
Because several other versions of IN THE DEATHROOM have already been attempted by other filmmakers, I was determined to put a unique twist on this classic short story. As with my feature PITY PARTY, I chose to embrace colour, rather than going for "dark and gritty."
I hope everyone enjoy this short, and that it inspires the next wave of Dollar Babies!"
