Experiencing Interruptions?

Interrupt

This project was a demonstration on how to use and film J and L cuts. Using J and L cut in this short video shows the interruption of the friend and really plays the strengths of the J and L cut technique in film. In the short video the J and L cuts are cut through the use of 1 character talking through the phone to only have 1 character and to show his emotions throughout the video. With a simple premise of the main character trying to help a friend but always gets interrupted in the phone call turns into a difficult advice column. What we try to show is the main character’s emotion through each interruption so there is nothing else in the surrounding to catch the audience’s eyes. Trying to use a simple LED light to slightly enhance the already lowly lit environment to enhance the facial features of the main character while using majority natural light.

Director Biography - Eric Pan

Eric Pan was born in December 16th 1997 in Hong Kong. At a young age his family moved from Hong Kong to Beijing China and spent 18 years at an international school Western Academy of Beijing for my early education and graduating at 2016. The following year he has travelled to Melbourne Australia for my bachelor degree at SAE Institute Qantm and graduating in 2019 with a bachelor in film. Now currently studying in Sydney Australia in the Master of Moving Image course soon to graduate.

Eric likes to create narrative shorts and also like to watch big blockbuster films because he like action films, and it’s what got him into the medium in film. It doesn’t mean he’ll choose to do other genre. First and foremost he like to see action scenes done right and not done cut to cut because there has been many examples in Hollywood where it has been done correctly and its those types of action films that he enjoy the most.

The most accomplished film I have been apart of is a short film called “Ronin” and it was the capstone for my under graduate. We have entered a lot of film festival with this film and has done many screenings around the world and the biggest one was the IFFNY (International Filmmaker Festival of New York). Even though I wasn’t working as one of my main roles that I try to better myself I have learnt many things in that short film.
