More than the moralization of a secluded generation that is addicted to dating apps, I was interested in the reflection of the topic, as a shared creative process with a group of individuals that belong to that generation. From research to writing, filming and editing, sharing thoughts and worries without apprehension. Trying at the very least to capture a tiny shadow of a complex spectrum of insecurities and weaknesses of an entire generation that is desperate for affection.
The protagonist in ‘Intermittences of a Contemporary Mislove’ is 30 years old and is trapped in her own emotions, fearing the lack of ability to deal with them. She knows that nowadays, with a completely accessible virtual world it is easy to surrender physically, constantly and repeatedly to new people, to new bodies. But not emotionally.
Filming this emotional prison defined the language of ‘Intermittences of a Contemporary Mislove’. The rule is that each shot, always close – close up or chest - reflected this enclosure, in a crescendo, visualy and sound wise, until a single final full shot - all together – in which each of the characters remains isolated, naked, stuck in the concept of a love they cannot find. Or even if they have found it, they will not be able to surrender to.
