Director Statement

As the stepson of a Marine and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Iraq War myself, the legacy of the Montford Point Marines is deeply personal. Their story is more than just a historical footnote; it's a blazing testament to resilience, courage, and the indomitable human spirit. My father donned the Marine uniform with pride, serving a country that promised liberty and justice for all, even when that promise often fell short. It's a commitment I understood intimately when I later chose to serve in the Navy.

The Montford Point Marines paved the winding, often uphill road that allowed men like my father and subsequently myself to serve our country. Against the formidable backdrop of the 20th century, amidst racial prejudice and global upheaval, these men chose valor, honor, and dedication. They confronted adversity both from the enemy abroad and the prejudices at home, proving that bravery and integrity aren't bound by color or creed.

Through "Triumph over Prejudice," I aim to give voice to these unsung heroes, to bring their stories from the peripheries of history into the spotlight. This is not just a tribute but an acknowledgment of a debt - a recognition of the foundations they laid that allowed future generations, including my father and me, to wear our uniforms with pride. Their strength, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment remind us all of the true essence of service and the enduring spirit of the Corps.

In every frame, I've endeavored to capture the raw emotion, the heartbreaks, the triumphs, and most importantly, the undying legacy of the Montford Point Marines. Their story, their courage, and their trailblazing spirit have left an indelible mark on my life, and it's my honor to share their narrative with the world.
