Insanity

The piece is about an individual who wants to get rid of the constant control. The individual is living in a restrained and conventional world. She is obsessed with beauty and looks. At one point she realizes she wants to get rid of the control that lives within her and escape the ties that constrict her way of being. She starved for freedom. As soon as she tastes the real freedom, she stuns herself by the power of the choice that the freedom offers.

The inspiration came from decadence and escapism. We are living a cycle that for some individuals can mean insanity as for some sanity. By this piece I want to show that insanity is a matter of perspective. I can see people around me trying to fit the beauty standards and trends. I see people buying expensive cosmetic products, alternative food or some chemically processed food and getting slowly blind and ignorant to our human nature that is inside of us. People constantly search for a way to escape the control and sanity they gathered on the life journey. People consume a lot of toxic substances, such as drugs by thinking this will guarantee their freedom.

I see freedom as an awareness that comes by accepting myself, my flaws and making the decision to stop repeating the constant escapist cycles. Freedom is all around us, it is just a matter of perspective and balance. All of the ties that we gathered on our life journey conscious or unconscious can be sane or insane. The constant control and worries we want to get rid of can be useful as well as protection. Who can survive the freedom at the end? Freedom is infinite and does not have limits. It is only up to us what we see as freedom.

Adriana Stefanakova is a multidisciplinary artist and creative director whose work bridges the worlds of dance, performance, and visual storytelling. A graduate of Codarts University in Rotterdam, she has honed her craft in choreography, improvisation, and interdisciplinary collaborations, producing captivating works that resonate deeply with audiences.

Her artistic vision is deeply rooted in psychological exploration, emphasizing the importance of connecting with one’s inner self and nurturing the inner child. Through her creations, she invites viewers to embark on journeys of personal growth, imagination, and emotional discovery.

In her distinguished career, she has danced with the renowned Dekkadancers, performed in acclaimed productions like La Dolce Vita and Racek with the Czech Philharmonic, and choreographed innovative pieces such as Drums Dance Lights, a fusion of movement, live percussion, and visual artistry, supported by a grant from the Kassel Kulturamt.
