The roots of George Anthony Richardson are grounded in Merced, CA. His upbringing as the son of a minister and a social worker ignited a fiery desire to reach through to people's hearts through storytelling. In 2014, he attended Santa Monica College to further hone his craft as an actor until moving to New York City in 2017. He is a 2021 graduate of The Juilliard School’s Drama Division and has worked on numerous productions including Tanya Barfield’s Blue Door and Cardboard Piano by Hansol Jung. In 2021, he made his Off-Broadway Directing Debut at 59e59 Theatres. His most recent acting credit marks his Broadway debut: this past season’s revival of Suzan Lori-Parks Topdog/Underdog. Developing a keen lens for the human condition through storytelling as an actor has propelled him to step into the role of not only a writer, but director as well.
In my 2nd year of drama school, I went through a bit of an inner crisis trying to desperately find my center, not only as an artist but as a young man. One random day, I was divinely prompted to sit down in my dark room and really assess what was going on with me. Why I was feeling this sudden depression. So I started writing and what started out as a journal entry began to unfold into a narrative that I never saw coming. Though our experiences slightly differ, Kordell and I hold the same heart. Dredging up the abusive history of my past and family was (and is) extremely terrifying but as the years of my development with this story went by, the purpose became so clear. The fear has dissipated in the face of the magnitude of what this story can mean to people. Through this story, I've learned the transformative power and the persistent mystery of God-given Grace. I hope the audience will receive that gift as well.
