Wenxin Zhou, born in Hangzhou, China in 1999, received her BFA in Art and Technology (Information Art Design) at Tsinghua University in 2021 and is pursuing her MFA in Film and Video at California Institute of the Arts. Her works vary in media and forms, but all seek empathy in the flow of emotions.
Inferior Dionysia is an experiment in chaotic gestures of body language, fluid patterns, and the art of noises. Using intuitive movements as random brushwork and analog noises as musical notes, the image and sound amplify each other through opposite textures and similar rhythms, and lead the dance of a loner. The black-and-white digital noise is endowed with the illusion of film grain, provoking the rethink of transformable relationships between the digital and the film, the new and the old, the kitsch and the classic, the fake and the true, as well as the inferior and the superior.
