Director Statement

'Inertia' directed, designed & animated by Natalie Sarmiento, Jade Jonathan, Josephine Sarayar and Tzolare Giragosian is inspired by Spencer Barberis' poem of the same namesake.

The film’s themes draw focus on mental illness and the entrapment that individuals may experience as part of this. There will be a focus on escapism as a means of release - something that many people yearn for to separate themselves from their mental illness.

All four directors are hoping to appropriately represent these themes and experiences in an inclusive manner that Barberis has with his own projects, such as the Bramble Journal. In doing so, their aim to portray a genuine portrayal of mental illness as Barberis has through Inertia will be successful.
