Experiencing Interruptions?

Indlela Yethu - Our Way of Being

The discourse on climate change and sustainable living has largely centered Western perspectives and voices, and rarely sheds light on perspectives of those living in the global south. From the perspective of the global south, while the concept of sustainable living seems to be a relatively new concept to those living in a largely Western modern world, there are many indigenous groups in Africa and across the globe who have been living in harmony with the environment for thousands of years. To them, sustainable living is not a new way of living - it has always been their way of being - despite them often being the ones who disproportionately feel the impacts of the global north’s unsustainable and unethical modes of production and consumption. Indlela Yethu - Our Way Being explores how much can be learnt from these indigenous groups about the circular economy, shared-economy and resource-efficiency, wisdom which can and should be used to inform the future of a equitable, socially just and environmentally conscious world.

Indlela Yethu - Our Way of Being was produced by Future of Fashion and Rewoven, two organisations pioneering ethical fashion in South Africa.
