Independent Women
Independent women is a story about vulnerable women who opted to establish a tie and dye cloth business. They make sales on the decorated fabricating clothes with faded appearance. Their successful venture into the business has supported them economically. They begin by submerging the clothes in their respective dye colors. Then the final product is dried on the sun.
ASHKIRO MOHAMED HARED is a refugee from Somalia. She is the main character and chairperson of the group. She has been in the camp, for over two decades. However, due to the high unemployment affecting the camp, she is compelled to undertake this business that supports her family economically. Despite facing challenges like restricted movement, she is optimistic in pursuing her dream.

Rahmo is a 19-year-old light skinned female refugee with an ambition of becoming a fearless journalist with a focus on refugee issues, building from her own experiences.
A second born in a family of 9 , Rahmo was born in 1999 in Bardera, Jubaland state, southern Somali. She arrived in the camp in 2008 with her family at a tender age of nine following an escalated civil war in her home town. She has now spent her life in the camp for 10 years.
In October 2017, Rahmo started her carrier in Journalism and filmmaking. She joins the list of few Somali women who have gone against the odds and pursued their interest in media as a carrier.
She was the director of Independent women, a short film that was screened in Dadaab, Kakuma, and Nairobi during Filmaid film festival in September 2018.
As a journalist, Rahmo wants to use journalism as a tool to advocate for the rights of the refugee and girls and present their plights to the world so as to create for them a safe environment to live in dignity.
