In The Shadows

In the earlier years of the protagonist's life, they found themselves situated in downtown, precisely at Queen Street. Near, across the thoroughfare, a conspicuously imposing gentleman bore a disquieting countenance that induced a sense of profound apprehension within the narrator. Fearing for their safety, the protagonist began to actively seek a means of retreat.
Their attention was subsequently drawn to a taxicab positioned ahead, compelling the protagonist to hasten towards it. However, as they attempted to access the vehicle by reaching for the door, the taxi driver abruptly engaged the locking mechanism, thereby heightening the narrator's panic. With an increasing sense of urgency, the narrator implored the driver to expedite their departure.
Simultaneously, the eerie figure approached the taxi, endeavoring to gain ingress, with the nightmarish visage of this individual leaving an indelible imprint upon the narrator's memory. Providentially, the taxi driver promptly accelerated, permitting the narrator to successfully elude the disconcerting encounter.
