Brach Haisherik is an Israeli screenwriter and director and a pioneering filmmaker from the Gur Hasidic community.
Her first short film All the King's Eunuchs (2023) received a special mention at the Solidarity Festival, three nominations at the Katze film Festival, and participated in various festivals around the world. Her second short film Floretimes was selected for the official competition at the Haifa international film Festival.
These days She is working on a full-length documentary film "Love in Hard Places", that received a production grant from the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation and the Gesher Film Foundation. In addition, she is developing a TV series under the direction of director Rama Burshtein.
I grew up and got married in a Hasidic community that practices strict sexual self-denial and imposes an extensive set of rules that dictate the intimate behaviors allowed between a husband and wife.
As a young, naive couple, my husband and I didn't have a model for a relationship that incorporates intimacy and the expression of affection. Still, every step we took toward each other had tremendous meaning and importance.
My starting point, what I have been through and my progression to today allow me to tell this narrative authentically, courageously and lovingly. My ability to bring this story to light creates great meaning in my life.
