Experiencing Interruptions?

In My Head

Riding behind my protagonist along a rollercoaster of emotions, my audience will witness the power of perspective and the light in which we see the events of the world around us. Simultaneously, my audience will enter the mind of my protagonist and observe the power and limitless nature of her imagination, intended to evoke realisation and awareness about how our minds distort and adjust our perceptions of reality accordioning to our emotions, often straying from truth and actuality that is presented and ignored before us.

Moreover, through utilising the experimental nature of Lev Kuleshov’s so called ‘effect,’ my film is structured as a tonal montage that alternates between typically blank expressions of my protagonist’s face, and her assumed memories/thoughts, providing context to her character that would otherwise not have been discerned without the crosscuts. The importance of this effect is to signify to the audience that it is often not so easy to tell how someone is feeling/what they are thinking, and while someone might appear fine, they may secretly be being haunted by dangerous and intrusive thoughts that skew their perceptions of reality, and are ultimately not what they appear to be on the surface. This is such an important message that I wish to convey to my audience, as we never truly know what someone might be going through behind their ‘okay’ seeming façade.

Director Biography - Phoenix Sherman

Over the last 10 years, I grew a passion for film creating by making my own short films, from desktop iMovie’s in 2012, to DSLR camera-shot short films now. Since finishing school, I have been fortunate enough to land some jobs on professional industry projects as a production assistant with Stratosphere Agency and then doing some set design work, along with production assistance on the set of Chemist Warehouse advertisements, specifically the ‘What’s on in the Warehouse’ department. I have also continued developing my own film-making skills, buying a new camera in April to experiment with, and adding to my YouTube channel short films and vlogs.
