Tianhao Xu is a Chinese-British artist and filmmaker. He was born in Zhejiang, China, and grew up mostly in London. He studied BFA Fine Art at Oxford University and MA Film Studies at Goldsmiths.
He made his directorial debut in 2017 with his experimental docufiction film Kungfu (2017), which was exhibited in York Art Gallery as part of Aesthetica Art Prize 2018. In Godstow (2022) is his second short film. Currently, he is working on his first feature film, a documentary film about a martial arts boarding school in Dengfeng, China.
"In Godstow" is a film about loneliness. The protagonists can be seen as homeless travellers, pilgrims, or outcasts. Travelling across barren landscapes in an era unknown, they find solace in the most ordinary things: shelter, fire, stars, the sound of a flute, and the company of a stranger.
