Seriina Covarrubias - A mixed race child, French/German/Hungarian mother and Mexican American father, that was born in Arizonan desert and raised in the cold desert above the article circle in Alaska until she was 13, Seriina was exposed to the extremes from an early age. Being far away from her own culture, raised in one outside of her own, stories became a way that she could connect with the work around her and the cultures she was apart of. Performing at an early age as an actor she become fascinated with the power of storytelling. It wasn’t until college that she moved into acting on camera and fell in love with the collaborative aspect of filmmaking. Finding that writing and directing allowed her to have more input into the storytelling part of the process she finally made the jump. This is her first feature film. She lives in East LA with her two film dogs and writing partner husband. During post-production on this movie she was diagnosed with a rare disease and also participates in disability advocacy.
Richard Martinez - Hailing from San Jose, California, Richard developed an early love for cinema, but did not consider becoming a filmmaker until after high school. Once relocating to Southern California and making Long Beach his home, he began to connect with other unique souls and his appetite for weird and experimental films grew. In his post-college years, he spent a few years working as a freelance crew member before turning his attention back to developing his own projects. Richard lives in Long Beach with his fiancé, stepson and two cats.
Through this uniquely structured film, the filmmakers explore themes of identity, isolation, friendship, and one's connection to the universe. With both co-directors coming from a mixed race background and nonstandard sexual orientations, they yearned to tell a story that explored those same themes. As the intertwined stories unfold, Seriina and Richard hope the viewer makes unexpected connections with this ensemble cast's assortment of eclectic and diverse characters. Both directors feel that the true expression of a movie as art is when the viewer comes out the other side affected by the experience.
