Director Statement

I chose to direct the film, Imposter, after exploring the concept of Imposter syndrome and how it had affected pieces of my life. I used to feel like a puppet, controlled by the demeaning thoughts in my head that would say that I didn't belong, that I wasn't good enough, that I was an imposter. The thoughts seamlessly crept through my head and implanted themselves there, loudly lurking in the back of my mind. This is why I conveyed the protagonist's, Sophie's, intrusive thoughts as whispers, a room full of whispers: hushed yet strident, grating--deafening. While watching the film, I wanted viewers to get the sense of being trapped within themselves, overwhelmed by the demeaning words, thoughts. It's so easy to be confined within oneself. And that's what I tried to portray here.
