Sean Mahaffey is an actor/writer/director currently living in Vancouver, British Columbia. "Imperfect Melody" is his directorial debut and the first film to come from local Vancouver film collaborative Hat Rack Pictures. Hat Rack currently has several projects in various stages of production, one of which Sean also wrote and stars in. Sean is a current student at The Groundlings School, located in Los Angeles.
This film was very much a freeform collaboration. We didn't really have much but an idea when we started(like most people) but our goal was to let everyone have total freedom with whatever they brought to the project. To elaborate, we relayed our idea to Andrew Lo(one of the most talented musicians we had the pleasure of working with!) and he wrote something and shared it with us. From there we shared that piece with Bailey and she choreographed a dance to it. Bailey mentioned our idea to a costume designer and she made something she thought would fit our idea, etc, etc. Spencer and I were in the drivers seat but we absolutely relinquished control in areas we knew very little. What we came up with at the end made us very happy, especially knowing that we let everyone involved just create something with no real limitations or 'rules'.
