In 2015 I became a mother for the first time. I began looking at children's culture and children's film in a way I hadn't before, and quickly realized how deeply unequal and non-diverse the scene is.
As part of my master studies at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design, I began making statistics of representations in Swedish children's film. The result clearly showed that a huge majority of children's films in Sweden had white, male and non-disabled protagonists. Disabled protagonists were especially underrepresented (close to 0%).

I also noticed how films with, for example, trans or non-binary protagonists, often would have the story revolve around the theme of gender. This is when I decided that I wanted to make a story with disabled, non-white and non-binary protagonists, but let the characters be self-evident and therefore have the story be about everyday things, rather than the topic of underrepresentation.
