After graduating from the Image Arts Photography program at Toronto Metropolitan University, Anne Kmetyko made her first short Mondo Karma in 2003. In 2007 she completed her training in Directing for Television at l’INIS (Institut de l’Image et du Son). she directed The Cat in the Pan in 2009, a short drama shot in 16 mm. The film screened at several festivals, including the 28th edition of the Rendez-Vous du Cinéma québécois, in competition, and at the Marché du film in Clermont-Ferrand. She wrote, produced, and directed two shorts in 2013, the fiction Truths and Liars, about a young man's initiation into corruption, and Etched in Skin, a documentary about tattoo artists from Europe and America. Both films were screened at the Montreal World Film Festival. Etched in Skin was selected in official competition at Cinequest24 in California and Dam Short Films in Nevada in 2015. In 2020 she obtained her master's degree in cinéma from Université de Montréal. Anne has made 8 short films as writer, producer, director, and she works in both fiction and documentary. Alongside her career as a filmmaker, she directs and produces web projects and corporate videos.
With this film, my desire is to explore the narrative through time, space, and perception with topics of identity, grief and love. I was inspired by the idea of synchronicity and the notion of elasticity of time became a key component to the story. My premise is: If you could go back in time to save the person you love, could you find your way back? The treatment is based on a narrative structure of “mise en abyme”, or story within a story. Through my films, I want to share stories that resonate universally and explore the challenges of life and the human condition.
