Idol is a short tale about sisterhood, friendship, love, hatred, secrets and grief.

I intentionally didn’t call the characters any names, as this can happen anywhere in the world albeit placed in an Indian household.

The thought for IDOL seeded with a story of two sisters and their overwhelming relationship of love, told in two different timelines – one in the late nineties and then now.

The initial thoughts were to bring in the cuteness and naivety of the 2 girls who are trying to get money for one of the girl’s sisters in the ways possible to them, and the grief and secrets people live with.

The title “IDOL” depicts the two sisters face-to-face within the letters, ‘D’ and ‘O’. One girl appearing sad, looking down and the other girl directly looking at her, understanding her pain. This imagery adds to the core idea of the story.

At the end of IDOL, we see a sister who is devoted to her sister, and the grief the elder sister holds to.

The relationships between the siblings are always divine, but the secrets in their lives distances the relationship itself.
