Experiencing Interruptions?

I & i

It’s a documentary made by a music fan of his idol about the activist, Zhong Yong-feng. In 1992, Zhong led his folks in the Meinong Anti-dam Movement. Besides, he is also the lyric writer of “Sheng-xiang & Band”. He writes many topics about farming villages, air pollution, anti-dam issues, urban-rural differences, etc. When he wasn’t creating music, Zhong took several different jobs as a civil servant. However, as a politician, he has got himself involved in the political storm instead of putting on a mask to socialize. How does he interact with the fan/director? How does the director make the documentary of his idol?
The director has been a music fan of Zhong Yong-feng for years. Zhong is not only a music creator but also with multiple identities. With the documentary about his relationship with his hometown, we realized accidentally that in fact, he has been on a journey of no return since he left home.
“Make me a lowercase ‘I’,” said by our protagonist. Therefore, the director tried to tell Zhong’s story with a lower point of view and found that the place which he has traveled to the least is his hometown, Meinong. In his hometown, he has been unusually silent. Because of his silence, the director tried to adjust his filming to find out the reason. During the process, Zhong’s awkwardness and uneasiness were slowly seen and discovered.

Director Statement

As the director and his music fan, the journey overturned my image of him and helped me rediscover who Zhong Yong-feng is.
Our protagonist, Zhong Yong-feng, always tries to see things with a smaller ego and observe everything and everyone around him. The film is trying to talk to him and lower the point of view to observe him, enabling us to see where he came from and where he is going.
