Melinda Hickey is a Wollongong-based artist, who has been drawing and painting people in various forms for as long as she remembers. The inspiration for her portraits comes from her work as a psychologist and a propensity to attract unsolicited opening up by strangers at parties. The constraints of a singular line, and her use of blind drawing, creates unexpected faces; faces that capture her intuitive sense of human experience. Initially, this approach was a challenge, requiring her to abandon meticulousness and perfectionism, but now she sees it as an exercise in embracing uncertainty, which is a good thing for her sanity.
‘I wish we did’ is her first music video. The animation is influenced by her continuous line drawings; using simple lines and movement to convey the essence of the song's love story in it's most basic form. She is also inspired by children's book artwork, and feels this style reflects the spontaneity and playfulness of India Sweeney's music.
