Director Biography - Marina Orlova

Born in Moscow in 1987, received a Ba in Sociology, Ma in Cultural Studies, postgrad in Theatre management, turned to dance in 2012, choreographed her first dance piece in 2015, moved to Amsterdam in 2017 to study at the School for New Dance Development. Works as independent choreographer, dancer, performer, wants to be a filmmaker too.

Director Statement

My artistic practice is redirecting from a conceptual methodology towards processual way of working. Now I am focusing more on how all the contexts I live and work in are influencing creation and also I am observing how personal domain interacts with artistic. Creation is a dialogue with the material and concepts have their own way of unfolding and directing the work more than its author.
My current artistic interests are: processes of labor and rest, concept of an error/failure, neurodiversity, absurdism and how to make the switch between theatricality/fiction and reality on stage and outside of it.
