ICU (I SEE YOU)

Suvashree, an uptown girl, caught in the quagmires of modern times, was entangled at her own apartment. In between the topsy-turvy of daily life, she aspired for emancipation. She longed for Lord Buddha. As a bookworm, she at times took by the ideals and principles of life. One day she slept over the book ‘The Politicians’ by Dr. Humayun Azad and woke up with a gloomy notion of the power-gamed world.
But, eventually, the power game crept into her world too with its teeth and nails. At times she became the tools of the game and at times she was being played by. Choked and soaked, Suvashree, set to be liberated from the power hounds.

Director Biography - LITON KAR

Born on 18 February, 1974, I went to Chittagong Government Art College to obtain my BFA degree in Drawing and Paintings. Alongside, I indulged into numerous socio-cultural activities including 90’s political uprising, writing columns, 4-5 years of theatrics with theatre group.
I sprouted an advertising agency named ‘‘Shade” in Chottogram in 1995. Later on, I moved to Dhaka, with a new creative agency “Italic” delivering Graphic and Interior Designing services. Besides, I dived deep into writing screenplay, TVCs, art direction for non-fiction and feature films and production designing, and also designed alternative film posters. I explored my passion as assistant, associate and co-director with few acclaimed directors of the country. Currently working on a feature film written, directed by me.

On the dawn of the civilization, human begun to form clans. And along came the clashes of the clans leading to an ugly struggle of control and subjugation. The craving to control begot strife and destruction creating humans’ own adversaries among themselves. And the creepy birth of politics oozed out.
The tussle to control, physically or ideologically, had sprung the scary arms races with rifles, bullets or WMDs. Numerous chilling wars including two World Wars put the humanity at bay. The spasms and violence created by this very human caused misery, destruction, annihilation, sorrows to uncounted fellow common humans.
This unusual time of COVID, this mass isolation, intrigues me to sense another devastation, another world-war-like setting. To me, I-C-U is the manifestation of the struggle for individual’s respiration and simultaneously is my observation of the growling of the power hounds. This film is a portrayal of the suffocation of common people in the jungle rule devised by the intruding and destructing game played by the war-mongering, power hungry predators.
