I Am Enough

Valiant Cor is a Singaporean Superhero. She is hugely celebrated and admired by the people, as she fights criminals and acts as a protector of the Lion city.

The entire population show their admiration for her by showering her with trophies, medals and media coverage. Over time she grows to greatly appreciate the attention, sowing the seed of a growing ego in her.

Her ego presents itself as an imaginary tiny monster, which appears in her room and develops alongside her fame. At one point Valiant becomes overwhelmed by the people's expectations and is literally swallowed up by her own ego. While struggling to break out of the monster, she is reminded of why she wanted to be a superhero in the first place.

Revitalized, this gives her enough strength of character to break out of the ego monster.

Director Biography - Nivedha Anbajagane

We often refer to society as an entity apart from us. We often forget that the issues and problems of the society, essentially, are that of individuals that make up the society. That includes you and me! We as individuals judge and validate others with no inhibition and sensitivity. We as society set standards for every aspect of life to base our judgements on.
Singapore as a culture, has a perception world over about its hard work ethics and its high standard of expectations for the citizens. Though it helped build the country from almost nothing to the present state with globally competing facilities, the current generation is beginning to feel the tremendous pressure from the society, to excel and be always on the top.
“I am enough” is a film inspired by the issue of society's expectations, crippling the natural progression of personality development in young individuals, especially women. This film portrays the ordeal of a superhero in Singapore, who is expected to meet high standards set by the citizens. It shows the complexity of such expectations gradually influencing her personality to become an egoistic, arrogant and insensitive person. It also transforms her into someone obsessed with validations and blinded by her own self expectations.
As a filmmaker, I would love to explore abstract ways of capturing such idiosyncrasies in the society we live in, through my film. I believe such works will bring about awareness, hold the mirror to the face to transform the society in a positive way.
