Romina De La Puente was born in Mexico City but grew up in New Orleans. She grew up training in dance but after dabbling in photography she has been hooked ever since. She is a young director, screenwriter, photographer, and editor studying at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and is set to graduate in 2023 with a BFA in Film/Video. Most of her work explores surrealism and horror, drawing inspiration from Luis Buñuel, but she is not afraid to expand her boundaries.
I directed the film I Always Knew after taking an extensive deep dive into how compulsory heterosexuality has affected my life and view on my sexuality. This film is far different than any film I have worked on as it is my first drama and a one-woman show. Working with my actress and actor was so special. They brought my script to life just like I imagined. Their outstanding performances are so strong and truly carry the film. This project is very dear to me, and I hope it speaks to others who have also struggled with coming to terms with their sexuality.
