Hypothetical Value
This essay film focuses on investigating the relationship between space and the perceived value of individuals or groups within society. This involves exploring the discourse surrounding the attachment to money and uncovering the hidden power dynamics inherent in current monetary flows through a set of hypotheses on alternative economies in a barter system.
The artist initiated the first exchange of her painting for another object and continued exchanging to manifest the incongruity between measurable value in numerical form and hypothetical value that cannot be clearly quantified in a barter system and gift economy, whether in the realm of arts, poetic expression, time, or temporal experiences.
Once the essay film was finished, the artist performed a performance intervention on London Bridge by displaying the film on an unused cash machine and asking the audience to auction the objects that were rejected in the film, responding to the role of the monetary system in reality and subjective value in specific spaces, times, and societies.

My name is Sasiwimon Paosanmuang, and my nickname is Beam. I'm originally from Thailand. Currently, I'm studying for a master's degree in Situated Practice at UCL and working as an interdisciplinary practitioner with a focus spanning art, architecture, and spatial design. I am based in London
An essay film that is an interdisciplinary investigation of human beings and spaces within built and unbuilt environments.
I consider my work rich in experimental ideas that address questions about the current and future state of society, with a strong emphasis on economic criticism. The capitalist system, a driving force of the modern world, is a central theme in my short film "Hypothetical Value." In this film, I explore a parallel world using a barter system instead of currency, beginning with exchanging drawings for objects until being rejected by general stores. This raises questions about true value in society, which cannot be precisely measured, unlike the monetary world where numbers define roles and status.
