Hunger

SHORT:
A young and struggling artist realizes that by devouring humans and their intellect, she can overcome her artistic boundaries and gain success both in her personal and professional life.

LONG:
Anna’s boyfriend has broken up with her and has found a new girlfriend. Her world is left shattered and she has hit a wall artistically as well, which prevents her from painting. Anna thinks that she can win back her ex, if her art is exhibited and therefore sets heaven and earth in commotion for this to succeed. What Anna doesn’t know is that an otherworldly power has embodied her. A power which grants her creativity at the expense of her humanity. Slowly but steady Anna moves away from being human, and further and further into the darkness to get her ex back, whatever it takes.

Director Statement

The production of the short film “Hunger” has been quite a journey involving more than 130 people from all around Denmark, Germany and all the way to Argentina. As a low budget production created with only 10,00.00 USD on our hands, we are very proud of the whole wonderful team behind the film, and our little common piece of our creative and mysterious minds.

“Hunger” is a film about the dynamics of power and how they seep into every facet of human relationships – be they romantic, platonic or adversarial. “Hunger” is about freeing oneself from these chains of social dynamics and asking the question if the costs that entails is worth the endeavor. Dealing with the business and world of art, the film reflects the tough competition, the struggling young artist and her personal life, jealousy and the will to succeed no matter what price.

“Hunger” do not represent the most beautiful parts of humanity – but it definitely represents feelings and questions we all carry with us; “Am I good enough?” and “how can I achieve my goal?”. As an artist, no matter what form or media you work, at one point in your life, you’ll have to ask yourself; “what am I willing to sacrifice for my dreams and my yearning for being able and allowed to communicate my inner self?” The less artistic and noble hunger for success and acknowledgement might be more tabooed and simpler, but it is definitely a real urge.

It has been our intention to dive into our own anger, stubbornness and honesty, to present a vulnerable metaphorically story about those needs and feelings. Sacrificing everything for your art and reputation is a romantic conception, but it is definitely a wrong path – artist or not. Narcissism will always devour us. We wanted to explorer humanities tendency to repeat our mistakes regarding ego, basic emotions and personal needs, the madness of love, and will. “Hunger” is our humble but very personal result.
