Humanity
Leila, a young employee at an NGO, stays late at the office one evening and receives an unexpected, urgent call from a migrant woman on a distressed boat with 700 people between Italy and Greece. Using only her phone, Leila's efforts to mobilize port authorities become increasingly desperate as she struggles to remain calm. Despite appearing to manage the crisis successfully, she faces the harsh reality of the inhumanity from those who could have intervened but chose not to.

We are pleased to submit our short film Humanity for your consideration. This project was born out of a desire to tell the story of a tragedy that occurred a year ago, when some 800 people lost their lives in the Mediterranean Sea. In Italy, this event received little media attention, overshadowed by the disappearance of a prominent national politician. For us, this omission was a warning: we could not let a story so crucial to collective memory go unnoticed.
Humanity seeks to give voice to this drama in an immediate and universal way, imagining that anyone, at least for a moment, could be on the other side of that distress call. The film is an invitation to reflection, but also to individual responsibility.
