How Purple Became
Each missing a part of a whole, two characters journey through a landscape guided only by their intuition, seeking that which would bring them to psychological completion. A reaction to the ego present on professional film sets, How Purple Became is a surreal, dreamlike short stemming from Jungian theories of self-actualization and the subconscious.

Cathy Ye is a Chinese Canadian director and director of photography from Vancouver, BC. Cathy’s work often deals with spiritual and Jungian questions of self-identity, and self-actualization. With a striking eye, Cathy paints cinematographic images with poetic grace. On set, Cathy works as a Lighting Electrician, often finding herself not only the youngest in the department, but also the only female POC Electrician in MA.
