The Houston Comedy Film Festival is a theatrical screening event on the Film Festival Circuit for international independent comedy films that also recognizes excellent comedy screenplays. The first event was held in 2009 and has been ranked in the FilmFreeway Top 100. This event was founded by author and retired filmmaker Mikel Fair who worked on location in the Film and Television industry from 1999-2015 while based in Houston, Texas. This is a live screening event that is not virtual. Due to COVID restrictions in 2020, we held our event outdoors at a Drive-In Theatre. In Spring 2021 we resumed our screenings indoors at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Lakeline in Katy, TX. About 20 miles away from downtown Houston. The HCFF screens a program of short comedy films in a "back to back" format. All types of comedy submissions are selected and screened including Funny Music Video, Web Series Episodes, Dark Comedy, Romantic Comedy, Mockumentary, TV Pilots, Commercials, Micro Films, Animated Comedy, Horror Comedy, Stand-up Comedy, Sketch Comedy, and any other type of Comedy that you can think of. The judges are looking for films that generate laughter in a fun, fast paced program at a great venue.

All films and screenplays are eligible, regardless if they have distribution or not. All films are eligible even if they have been accepted to other film festivals. All films and videos are eligible, regardless of when or where they were produced. Even if your film, web series or music video is publicly available on YouTube or Vimeo, it is still eligible for submission. For exhibition purposes. all films are expected to provide a download link, so that we can compile and project them in HD 1080p. 23.976, 24, 25 or 30 frame rates are accepted and will be converted to 23.976 for projection. Please do not submit 720p or Standard Definition films to this festival.

All attendees must purchase tickets to attend the event. They are $20 per person. Whether you are a selected filmmaker, screenwriter, family or friend. Why? Because when we used to give away free tickets, we had so many vacated seats and cancellations that we would post "sell outs" online and end up with a 20 or 30 empty seats in the theater. This prevented locals from purchasing last minute tickets and attending. Now that we are charging for every attendee, our attendance numbers are more accurate for the venue staff, printing award certificates, printing networking badges and simply for having a better idea about who is showing up and who isn't. There are no exceptions to this rule. Please consider it before submitting to the Houston Comedy Film Festival.

Houston Comedy Film Festival is hereby granted the right to utilize an excerpt from any film submitted and accepted for exhibition at the Festival for promotional purposes. The individual or corporation submitting the film hereby warrants that it is authorized to commit the film for screening, and understands and accepts these requirements and regulations. The undersigned shall indemnify and hold harmless Houston Comedy Film Festival from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered.
