Best of Charlotte 48Hr Film Project
Runner up for Best of Charlotte
Andy Heck is a filmmaker from East Troy, WI. He earned his degree in Multimedia from UW-Whitewater where he pursued his passion for film.
After a history of making videos for action sports, events, and businesses, he found his career as a videographer for a corporation that moved him to Charlotte, NC.
After moving to Charlotte and competing in local competitions and working crew on several films, Andy has found himself filling the Director role on current projects.
This film was a very collaborative project among a group of filmmakers who had worked on a few project together and this was a project where our combined skills really seemed to gel.
I had worked with the producer, Kevin Patterson, and the head writer and sound engineer, Adrian Parrish, on a few projects over the last couple years. Through those projects, we really got a feel for each other's skills and strengths and were really able to leverage those strengths on this project.
Kevin, Adrian, and I had all worked on 48 hr projects before but had never all worked on the same 48 hour film together. We took a lot of time prior to the project discussing how we would approach it and what our roles would be.
Our writing process really was the beginning of the collaboration with the three of us and our assistant director, Marcus Kyle, brainstorming ideas based on the criteria provided to us by the project. Within a few hours we had a solid script outline and had cast the film. After a rough draft and then some collaborative edits by the group, we had a finished script.
From there, we showed up for the day of the shoot ready to each focus on our respective roles. We added in some other great supporting crew and some talented actors and we were able to turn out a high quality film in a very short amount of time.
