Experiencing Interruptions?

House

In 2022, two of closest friends arrived at the HOUSE to meet the lifelong friends for a weekend getaway.

The HOUSE has several backgrounds of sign languages, including Belgian Dutch (VGT), Italian (LIS), Finnish (FinSSL), German (DGS), Danish (DTS), French (LSF), and Spanish (LSE). We "understood" each other, but our plans for the trip completely changed when one of us won the lottery.

This short film portrays Director Roy's life experience with his Deafness through a dark mystery plot, with delightful multilingual conversations in sign language and no sounds. The film features English captions.

The characters' sign languages are as follows:

Felix: Belgian Dutch (VGT)
Gaia: Italian (LIS)
Bobbi: Finnish (FinSSL)
Alexander: German (DGS)
Dorthea: Danish (DTS)
Emma: French (LSF)
Catalina: Spanish (LSE)

All crew members and cast are Deaf.

Director Statement

My first language is Irish Sign Language, which I have been using since birth as my family is Deaf. Throughout my life, I have watched many TV series and films without audio, and I consider this to be a normal activity. I want to bring my experiences to my filmmaking and help audiences understand what it's like to experience life without the use of sound.
