Hottungo - when pastoralists and farmers meet in the Sahel
“Hottungo” is a traditional celebration marking the end of the yearly transhumance, where pastoralists lead cattle in southern countries, looking for grass and water.
Over the past decades, a combination of environmental degradation and security deterioration has contributed to depicting the Sahel as an area where terrorism thrive.
Hottungo features female leadership, social cohesion and homegrown initiatives where Islamic leaders (amir, imam) confirm that shared prosperity is the best way to cement peaceful relationships between citizens.
