Hot Wing Redemption

Drunk and ill-prepared to fight, a band of superheroes must team up with their arch nemesis for a battle they never saw coming.

It's 1997 in New York City, and a well-known group of superheroes walk through the doors of Buffalo Crazy Wings to celebrate their latest victory. Excited by the visiting celebrities, the restaurant staff keeps the hot wings and beer flowing. Soon enough, we find our heroes 3 sheets to the wind. When our Villain suddenly returns for his shot at redemption, the heroes are not sober enough to fight back this time, and hilarity ensues. As a brand-new rival comes on the scene, our heroes must form unlikely alliances to defeat the new foe while simultaneously fighting off a hangover.

Director Statement

Hot Wing Redemption was born out of an inclusive discussion about disability representation in movies and television. What would it look like if people with disabilities could write their own story line instead of a neurotypical person writing it for them? As I worked with this population of adults, it was striking to witness them experience freedom within the creative process. There was a powerful shift taking place, from immediate compliance to the actualization of their rights as people to think freely for themselves. At first, their ideas and responses were material from TV shows and movies that already exist, but then there was a moment of realization where they finally gave themselves permission to discover what was hiding within their own minds and their own imaginations. Once that power was unlocked, the story began to take shape. As they began writing and dreaming up ideas, this quickly became a passion project. They not only created their own characters complete with names, backstory, and traits, but they chose all of the major details of the story; the plot, location, timeline of events, and everything in between. Being able to watch a group of people, who are often silenced and suppressed, become empowered by their right to the freedom of expression, is something I will never forget. I hope as you watch Hot Wing Redemption, you too will grasp a sense of the individuality, originality, and the spark that makes this story shine.
