ANTHONY PATELLIS has been a director of theater in New York City’s Off-Broadway venues, in London, and across the USA for many years. He is currently the national director for the longest running Off-Broadway comedy hit show, Tony ’n Tina’s Wedding.
He made his on-camera directorial debut 5 years ago, with the pilot episode, TAP OUT OF IT! His sophomore production, a 40-episode web-series, PATTY AND PATTY, saw a viewership of nearly 500,000 views per episode.
His latest collaboration with writer/producer Brittany Portman, HOOKED, is a culmination of his past work, and his most ambitious and complex production to date.
Nearly last on-board, HOOKED was written and cast, by writer/producer Brittany Portman, before I entered the project. Coming from years of directing in the theater, I was near petrified that the casting may not be right. Further complicated by the fact that several actors were working out of town, and would not be available until just days before shooting. Thus, “faith and trust” became my operative thoughts. Together, Brittany’s and my search for the right Director of Photography, led us to the exquisite, Barcelona cinematographer, Olga Vazquez. We rounded out our crew with the experienced Assistant Director, Ryan Dearth. With everyone in place, we scheduled a tight, ten-day shooting schedule, in multiple locations throughout Brooklyn, Long Island City, and Manhattan. To my great relief, the cast was pitch-perfect. The crew, a marvelous, international assemblage of diverse talent, who plowed through unexpected last-minute location changes, rain, and unforeseen problems. Yet, they brought us in on-time, wrapping at ten PM, on the tenth day of our shoot. The wonderfully collaborative effort from everyone involved, including post production editor, Micah Spayer, has made this relatively inexperienced on-camera director, feel competent, and confident to move forward with the next chapter of HOOKED.
