Hook It Up!

Lilly Anderson is just like most people; she goes to work, has mind-numbingly boring conversations with her co-workers, comes home, tries to pay bills with credit cards, shops online, falls asleep to Beat Bobby Flay, rises in the morning to just rinse and repeat. Lilly is sick of being a drone - a cog in the machine. HOOK IT UP! shows us that as long as you’re true to yourself, good things can happen when you take a chance.

Director Biography - Howie Kremer

Howie was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. He went to summer camp in the Ozarks where he had his first kiss. That pretty much prepared him for college at Bradley University. Shortly after, he moved to Chicago where he did improv and wrote and performed countless shows at The Second City Theater, iO, and The Annoyance Theaters before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in comedy writing. Howie wrote his first TV script on TROPHY WIFE and most recently wrote on LET’S GET PHYSICAL (coming out in 2018!) on the Pop Network. Howie loves candy (specifically PEZ) and his three cats: Gretyl, Bunnypenny, and Musie.

Director Statement

Hook It Up! came out of loss. Loss of a close friend, loss of a dear pet - both taken too soon - and loss of my North star. 2016 was a tough year and I wanted to give my dream of comedy writing and directing. It was darker than it had been before, but maybe that was because it was winter and the sun goes down earlier. Anyway, with the help of a good therapist, my wife, and mentors, I didn't give in. I wanted to make something that would remind people that whatever it is you want to do in life - do it. Seriously. Life is too short - you get one go at this thing - and no matter what YOUR thing is - if it makes you happy, it's worth doing. Even if it's a path less taken - that's just more exciting! In my darkness, I noticed how inward I had become, but also, how weird society was. We're always in our phones – refreshing our email – looking for red hearts – the dopamine. Well, what if we said fuck it to being a cog in the corporate machine? What if you just did what you needed to get by and have a happy life and maybe in return you could help people with things they need? What if people interacted in person with each other more? My hope for the audience's response is they watch this and realize, you're not too old, or too stuck. Your ideas are valid - go for it! Because seriously, you could get hit by a truck tomorrow. Maybe that's too idealistic, but that's my hope. Thank you for reading my director's statement.
