Director Statement

In "Home(sick) - A Journey Within", I wanted to create a story that reflects the universal, yet deeply personal journey of finding one’s place in the world—a journey I know well. As someone who has navigated life across different cultures, I’ve often questioned what it means to truly belong. This film is my exploration of that longing for a sense of “home,” not just as a physical space, but as an internal feeling of completeness and connection.
"Home(sick) - A Journey Within" was inspired by my experiences as an expatriate, navigating a life far from my roots, and seeing the beauty and complexity that comes from returning to one’s origins. I wanted to portray the dissonance that can occur when you go back to a place you once called home, only to find that both you and that place have changed. For Alex, the protagonist, this journey unfolds not only through geography but through the relationships he builds, challenging his understanding of identity and belonging.
A key component of the film is the evolving relationship between Alex and Felix. This connection brings an LGBTQ+ perspective into the story, enhancing the film’s exploration of identity and acceptance. In my work, I strive for authenticity and emotional honesty, and through Alex’s bond with Felix, I wanted to portray a relationship that feels real, grounded, and layered, reflecting both personal and universal themes of self-discovery, acceptance, and love.
For me, storytelling is about opening the soul—sharing truths and vulnerabilities that may be painful but resonate deeply. I believe that a story should invite viewers to confront their own experiences, perhaps feeling a bit “homesick” for something they cannot easily define. Home(sick) is an invitation for audiences to look inward and reflect on where they feel most themselves, and perhaps find that “home” is less about a place and more about feeling understood.
In my work, I hope to create narratives that not only resonate but also offer a sense of catharsis for anyone who has felt like a stranger in their own life.
