Director Biography - Carlie McCann

Carlie McCann was born on November 3rd, 1998. She is an American Filmmaker from Treasure Island, Florida. She is most known for Sylvia (2019) and her award winning film Welcome Home Frankie (2020). She is also known for her Production Design work in her own films and for El Niño y El Astronauta, Haunt Me In The Night, and Desconocida.

Director Statement

Homemaker originally stems from an interaction with my mother late at night when I joined her outside of her home in 2020. She spoke about building a separate house in the backyard of her actual home for her and her friends to stay in. It felt reminiscent of a childhood clubhouse but for older women to escape from their lives and join together in a safe place. As the story developed, I realized the story has many parallels of what I've always observed in relationships in my life and all of it's dysfunctional patterns. This story evolved into a crisis that many people will face. What does it mean to re-create the past? How can I escape? It's a story that can be seen by anyone through any lens. It provokes the audience to decide: is this is Happiness?
