A Southern Girl with a Northern flair, is what makes ZeldaSpeaks the Community Activist she is. Her passion has taken her out of the Radio/TV studio, onto the streets of Chicago, to help the homeless. Her first film was influenced by the death of her little brother who was murdered (February 2019) by another homeless man in Chicago.
A native of the south side of Chicago, Zelda grew up in Stateway Gardens Projects. Orphaned at 9 years old, she was sent down south to live with an aunt. She was rescued by her older sister, Vivian, who brought her back to Chicago, encouraging her to go to college. She obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism. She became a Speaker/Trainer/Author on Health and Wellness, under the tutelage of Les Brown, The Motivator!
She went on to write several books, manuals, as well as produce a local cable Show, The Higher Learning Network TV Show. This is her first film, showcasing the inequalities/disparities in housing in the city, and the nation. She continues the struggle of increasing awareness of the global problem on her radio show, BlogTalkRadio.com/the-female-solution Higher Learning with ZeldaSpeaks on Monday Morning Mindfulness 7-9am CST/8-10am EST, as well as The HLN-TV Show which airs Tuesdays 6pm/Wednesdays 1pm CST, Chicago.
As The Mindfulness/Stress Relief Coach, she teaches others how to relieve stress/pain thru breathing exercises LIVE ON THE AIR as well as community events. Her books/audio programs are her babies. She’s married to fellow Videographer/Producer, Tony Hogues. This film reminds us that many working people are only one paycheck from being homeless.
ZeldaSpeaks reminds us it doesn’t matter where you came from, it matters more the direction in which you’re headed. Many of her participants have referred to this experience as The ZeldaZone! Be prepared to enter YOUR Zone, to being your Best Self Ever!

The purpose of this film is to bring awareness to the general public to the plight of the homeless. As Filmmaker Ava Duvernay says, "We as a people can change the system, but we have to do it together, we must all become involved." Nothing happens without a plan. This is our beginning plan. When this plan has run it's course and there are no more homeless, our job is done. If we are the SuperPower we say we are in America, let's act like it and make shelter a priority for all humans. Proper housing is a HUMAN RIGHT!
