Homeless Resource Day March 24, 2018
In March 2017, Longview Mayor Andy Mack formed the Mayor's Task Force on Homelessness with a goal of decreasing the number of homeless in Longview; not by moving them out, but by giving them hope and a chance for a future. Mayor Mack stated that "we have a moral obligation to help those who are less fortunate."
Longview is a caring and compassionate community with many resources available for homeless individuals. Through a collaborative effort of multiple organizations and individuals, the Mayor’s Task Force on Homelessness created a game plan to reduce homelessness in Longview through an approach that seeks to direct individuals to available resources.
The Homeless Resource Day held on March 24, 2018, was a collaborative effort of the City of Longview and various non-profit organizations to help meet the needs of the homeless. The goal was in one day, a person experiencing homelessness can find or enroll in and receive services that would otherwise take months to secure. Services offered to individuals that day included haircuts, clothing, medical, bus passes, Identification cards, and more. Over 300 people received services to help them out of their current situation.
