The young artist Yuliia Pastukhova (1990) was born in Ukraine in the city of Chuguev, Kharkiv region. Yuliia graduated from the Kharkiv State Art School in 2009 and the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts in 2015.
Kharkiv, being one of the most important centers of artistic life of the 20th century on the territory of Ukraine, had a huge impact on the creative path of the artist.
Yulia Pastukhova is a true provocateur, using her mediums of painting and video art to challenge societal norms and confront deeply ingrained inequities surrounding female roles and beauty standards. Her work is a powerful response to the narrow, limiting ideals that have been imposed upon women for far too long.
Through her art, the artist is pushing the viewer out of their comfort zone. Her work is confrontational, unapologetic, and at times, deeply unsettling.
Ultimately, this artist's body of work is a form of resistance - a rejection of the predefined female roles. By using her art as a tool for social change, Pastukhova is making a powerful statement about the enduring importance of artistic provocation in order to be heard.
